History of Long Barn Lodge-
In 1925 rancher Warren Beal built the Long Barn Lodge so people driving over Sonora Pass could stop for food and lodging. Long Barn Lodge continues to be a fun, historical destination and adventure for the whole family. There is also an ice rink that opened November 9, 2012 for the 42nd season.
My son loved ice skating in the rink, and they have buckets for people to lean on and this made it easier for my son to skate. There were children AND adults using the buckets and you can pile them up to make them higher and lower. It is a GREAT place to learn to skate and the people who work there are so friendly it made me want to move to Long Barn! It was so cute seeing all these children leaning on white buckets skating up a storm! Then, we just walked over to our motel (they also have cabins, some with kitchens.) There is also a large field where children can play in the snow, a small sledding area, and an area to make snowmen.
This place is a great family place, but there are NO restaurants within walking distance to the motel. There are a few restaurants within a five minute drive but it is not easy to drive at night here when it is icy out. I highly recommend bringing snow chains for your car for this area. Also, I recommend bringing your food to the motel/cabins, so you don't have to go out once you check in. Make sure you dress really warm as it is really cold in the winter in these parts!
The Long Barn Lodge turns the ice skating rink into an event and conference center in the early fall, summer and spring and they do weddings and reunions also.
