We took the Amtrak train from Chicago, Illinois to Emeryville, CA. We ended up on the train because my son got an ear infection and congestion and the doctor recommended he not fly. Flying when a child has an ear infection and/or congestion can be VERY hard on a child and can be painful as well as cause a perforated ear drum. We got a sleeper car (highly recommended) and my son especially enjoyed the dining car as well as viewer car. I highly recommend train travel with young children!
