Class - The Connected Family: Navigating the Tech World with Young Children, Oakland, CA, Wednes. Feb. 26, 2014

As a parent of a young child, I constantly see children my son's age out to dinner and playing on their parents phone or on their own iPad. Recently, I was at a local cafe and saw a father and son having morning coffee and milk, and bagels and the father spent the whole 30 minutes I was there on his iPhone, meanwhile, the young boy played alone with a stick, and then went to actually waving the stick to people walking by on the sidewalk, then to actually waving the stick in the cafe.  By that time, the dad got off the iPhone and angrily grabbed the stick away from his son and left quickly.  Who was really wrong, I wondered, the little boy for waving the stick or the father for ignoring his son the entire time they were at the cafe?

The above true scenario makes me want to go to the workshop the Aurora School in Oakland is presenting, "The Connected Family:  Navigating the Tech World with Young Children."  This is an adults only free evening with Jason Brand.

Jason Brand, LCSW is a family therapist and author in Berkeley.  In addition to his child and adolescent psychotherapy practice, he specializes in providing support to families in a rapidly changing world where digital technologies are transforming lives.
