It is a fact that autism rates are continuing to rise to the current rate of 1 in 68 children. This is a 30% increase from 1 in 88 just two years ago according to a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The other fact is that children with autism continue to be overwhelmingly male.
See http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/27/health/cdc-autism/ for an interview with Temple Grandin, an professor and author who speaks about her experience growing up with autism.
What causes autism? There is no 100% scientifically proven cause of autism. Teachers who have worked with children in classes with children, such as myself, have personal thoughts on the matter as we have seen patterns develop. In future posts I will post various thoughts on the issue, though no known cause or cure of autism is currently known. One thing that is for sure is that there is a growing fear that the statistics will continue to rise.
